The Minister for Planning has approved Amendment C109wellPt1 to the Wellington Planning Scheme. The changes came into effect on Thursday 4 May 2023.
Wellington Amendment C109well, as exhibited, proposed to delete Schedule 1 to the Environmental Significance Overlay (ESO1) from the residential areas in Golden Beach, Paradise Beach and the Honeysuckles.
At the ordinary Council Meeting of 4 October 2022, Council voted to split Planning Scheme Amendment C109 into two parts (C109wellPt1 and C019wellPt2), being:
C109wellPt1 has now been formally approved, while C019wellPt2 has been abandoned.
Planning Scheme Amendment C109wellPt1 has facilitated a comprehensive restructure of the Wellington Planning Scheme (Planning Scheme) and includes minor revisions to some zone and overlay provisions to help reduce red-tape and make some types of new (minor) development such as sheds, easier.
The Amendment was a ‘mandated’ State Government requirement under the ‘Smart Planning’ program that applies to all planning schemes across Victoria to ensure state-wide consistency in how they are presented.
The Amendment has resulted in a new look, streamlined Planning Policy Framework (PPF), which integrates state, regional and local planning policy into a more succinct and user-friendly structure.
Amendment C109wellPt1 has made the following key changes to the Wellington Planning Scheme:
Amendment C109wellPt1 provides a more concise Planning Scheme that is easier to navigate and administer and will deliver a greater level of certainty to the community and other stakeholders.
