1300 366 244Parks Week celebrates the crucial role that parks play in fostering livable cities and vibrant communities. This annual event brings together communities right across Australia and New Zealand to appreciate and engage with their local parks and open spaces.
Wellington Shire's popular parks and open spaces host a jam-packed calendar of events to celebrate Parks Week each year during March. Wellington's parks week events and activities include baby's day out, kids' day out, park runs, markets, forest therapy walks, colour runs, bootcamps and much more.
Sale Botanic Gardens, Lake Guthridge and Lake Guyatt, from 8am - Free event
Parkrun is a free, fun and friendly weekly 5km community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate - it's up to you! Held every Saturday from 8am at Sale Botanic Gardens, Sale (see the course page for more details).

Heyfield Apex Park, from 5.30pm to 9.30am - Free event
Organised by the Lions Club of Heyfield, this free movie night will take place in Heyfield's Apex Park. Families are welcome to bring a picnic, rug or chairs to enjoy while there will be some bean bags for kids to sit on. Marshall Arts will provide free face painting before the movie begins. Lions Club of Heyfield will be put on a free sausage sizzle and there will be some free giveaways for everyone to enjoy. Maddison's Magical Pop N Floss will have popcorn and fairy floss.
Victoria Park, Sale, from 9am to 10am - Free event

Macalister Park, Maffra, from 10am to 12pm - Free event
A free interactive children’s show which includes singing, dancing and storytime. GranPam & PhilPop perform simplesongs that everyone can sing along to with simple dance steps and actions. The performance is aimed at children aged between 0 to 7yrs, however the whole family can join in with all the fun. Families are welcome to bring a picnic, blanket or chair to sit on. There will be free face painting by Marshall Arts Face Painting, some giveaways, Maddison's Magical Pop N Floss and the Mystery Ice Cream Van (to purchase).
Sale Pedestrian Mall, 8am to 12pm
Sale Lions Club hosts a weekly sausage sizzle every Saturday to support local schools, kindergartens, fire brigades, community groups, hospital auxiliary services, Royal Flying Doctor's Service and others in their fundraising efforts. The Saturdays during Parks Week will support the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Maffra Island Reserve, from 7am to 2pm
The Rotary Club of Maffra hosts a monthly market with a variety of stallholders, including people selling vegetables, honey, fresh eggs, plants, alpaca goods, candles, soaps, cakes, slices, jams and preserves, woodwork, bric-a-brac and jewellery.
Sale Botanic Gardens front entrance, from 10am to 11am - Free event
A one-hour history walk and talk through the picturesque Sale Botanic Gardens looking at some of the amazing Living Collections and significant trees throughout the gardens. Supported by the Friends of Sale Botanic Gardens.
Flooding Creek Linear Reserve, from 1pm to 2pm, meet directly opposite the Gippsland Regional Livestock Exchange - Free event
A one-hour history walk and talk through Flooding Creek Linear Reserve. Supported by the Friends of Sale Botanic Gardens.
Port of Sale Boat Ramp Reserve, from 11am to 1pm - Free event
A free event for young people to get outside, be active and be social. This event will involve volunteers throwing non-toxic colour powder (chalk) at the participants as they run through the course. A free sausage sizzle and music will be provided to keep the vibes high. A toilets will be on site for participants to use. Run by Wellington Shire Youth Group.
Sale Rotary Oval, behind Nakunbalook Environmental and Cultural Education Centre, from 9am to 10am
Celebrate Parks Week 2026 with an energising breathwork session designed to help you breathe deeply, move freely and reconnect with nature. This adult-only session encourages an open mind and is not recommended for those with heart conditions, high blood pressure, respiratory issues, recent surgeries, pregnancy or a history of dizziness or seizures - please consult your healthcare provider if unsure. Booking is essential, with a cost of $20 and for the first 10 participants, Wellington Shire Council will waive $10 from the cost to celebrate Parks Week.

Sale's Brennan Park, from 10am to 1pm - Free event
Join us at Brennan Park in Sale for Baby’s Day Out, a free event for children aged 0 to 4 years and their parents and carers. Enjoy a fun-filled day featuring a jumping castle, face painting, petting zoo, trackless train rides and a bubble-blowing display by Fairy Tales. There will be engaging activities from Wellington Shire Council staff, along with community services including Uniting, Maternal Health Care Services, Noah’s Ark, Sale Toy Library, NDIS and Wellington Victoria Police. Refreshments will be available to buy from El.Cappuccino, ice cream from the Mystery Ice Cream Van, while Sale Lions Club will provide a free sausage sizzle.

Maffra's Victoria Park from 10am to 11am - Free event
Maffra Ukestra will provide musical entertainment under the large pine tree in Victoria Park. The group sing popular songs from a range of genres and invite the audience to sing along where appropriate. Come and enjoy an hour of free music!
Sale's McMillan Park, near the playground, from 10am to 12am - Free event
Friends of Sale Botanic Gardens present an educational session on how to make a basic table design. Limited to 10 people, booking required by phoning Heather on 0413 919 537.
Yarram Skatepark, from 4pm until 5.30pm - Free event
Gecko Sports Gippsland presents a free high-energy Ninja Warrior session. For 60 minutes, participants aged 5 to 12 will be challenged with a fun and dynamic mix of obstacle courses, agility drills and strength-building activities. This program offers a great way to build confidence, teamwork and athleticism in a supportive and engaging environment. Get ready for a thrilling experience that combines fitness and fun! Yarram's Memorial Park, from 10am to 1pm - Free event
Join us at the picturesque Yarram Memorial Park for Kids Day Out, a free event for children aged 0 to 7 years and their parents and carers. The day will begin with an official Welcome Ceremony dance by the local Indigenous group Wulgunggo Ngalu, followed by a range of exciting activities including a small jumping castle for those aged up to 4 year old (courtesy of Yarram Country Club), a large jumping castle for ages 5–7, face painting, a bubble-blowing display by Fairy Tales and a petting zoo. Community services and groups such as Uniting, NDIS/Link, Wellington Victoria Police, YDHS and Wellington Shire Council staff will be on hand with fun and educational activities. Enjoy a free sausage sizzle provided by Yarram Rotary Club, and purchase treats from the Mystery Ice Cream Van and El.Cappuccino, offering ice creams, hot drinks and snacks.

A mini triathlon series held by Riviera Triathlon Club that starts at Aqua Energy, with the following events:
· Micro Kids Distance Triathlon (ages 5+) – 25m swim, 500m cycle and 100m run.
· Mid Kids Distance Triathlon (ages 7+) – 50m swim, 2km cycle and 500m run.
· Long Kids Distance Triathlon (ages 10+) – 100m swim, 4km cycle and 1km run.
· Senior Mini Triathlon (‘Enticer/Novice’ Distance Triathlon) (ages 12+) – 200m swim, 11km cycle and 2km run.

Imagine lying back in one of our beautiful local parks with the sounds of nature, birds, leaves rustling, and a gentle breeze all blending seamlessly with the soothing tones of various instruments. These outdoor sound baths are truly something special, inviting you to relax fully, let go of stress, and simply be. All you need to do is lay there, breathe and allow the sounds to guide you into a state of calm and relaxation. These guided meditative sessions are designed to help you unwind, recharge and feel more grounded in the present moment.
Bring a yoga mat or something comfortable to lie on, a blanket, pillow, bolster or cushion for under knees (optional), bottle of water and an open mind to experience something new. Booking is essential. The first 10 people to book via link will be reimbursed $10 to celebrate Parks Week 2026.

A Forest Therapy Walk is a guided walk by an Accredited Forest Therapy Guide who invites you to be involved in a range of activities in nature that encourages you to slow down and awaken your five senses. The slow walk is over a relatively short distance. There are core activities conducted on every Forest Therapy Walk but also a variety of activities that are chosen to take advantage of what the park has to offer at particular times of the year. Port of Sale, near The Wedge, from 4pm to 5pm - Free event
Gecko Sports Gippsland presents a free, action-packed Ultimate Frisbee session for kids. For 90-minutes, kids will play fun games, easy-to-learn throwing and catching skills and do lots of movement. Participants will build confidence, teamwork and coordination while staying active in a safe, friendly and encouraging environment. Whether it’s their first time throwing a frisbee or they already love to run and play, this program is all about having fun, making friends and enjoying being active outdoors. Click here to register.

Rosedale Neighbourhood House will host a family-friendly movie night at Rosedale Edward Crooke Reserve. Bring a chair, picnic blanket to relax and enjoy. There will be a free sausage sizzle, cold soft drinks available, Maddison's Pop N Floss, The Berry Dairy team and El Cappiccinio, and Marshall Arts will provide free face-painting for all ages. There will be some free giveaways. The movie will begin at 8pm.

Come and enjoy a free, open air, family-friendly movie night. Lisa Marshall from Marshall Arts face painting will be there doing her amazing face painting designs, kids are invited to come along and get their face painted before movie starts. The Lions Club of Yarram will be cooking up a free sausage sizzle for all to enjoy. Maddison's Magical Pop N Floss and the Mystery Ice Cream Van will be onsite for the public to purchase from. While there will be limited bean bags to relax in to watch the movie, people are encouraged to bring a picnic, chair or picnic rug to sit on.

Held by Port Albert Progress Association, this open air movie night by the water for families to enjoy. Free facepainting, giveaways and a sausage sizzle provided. Bring along a picnic, chair or rug to sit back relax and enjoy. Movie begins 8pm.

A monthly market with plenty of hot food, hot and cold drinks, produce, art and craft, upcycled goods, music, demonstrations and kids' activities.
Sale Botanic Gardens at the LEAF from 8pm
Experience Shakespeare Under the Stars at Sale Botanic Gardens with the Australian Shakespeare Company’s lively production of Twelfth Night.
