Change Our Game – Education Program Funding

Upskilling local women and girls in sporting administration, coaching, officiating, first aid, or more, to be more confident in volunteer roles within their club.

  • Wellington Shire Council has received funding through the Victorian Government’s Change Our Game Stream Two (Capability) program to deliver a local grants program that supports women and girls to undertake free training in sport and active recreation.
  • This initiative aligns with the goals of our local Fair Access Implementation Plan and the Gender Equality Act 2020, aiming to build the skills, confidence and leadership capacity of women and girls in our local sporting communities.
  • We recognise that women and girls in Wellington Shire face greater barriers to participation and leadership in sport due to factors such as safety, confidence, caregiving responsibilities and socioeconomic challenges. This grant program aims to help remove those barriers by funding access to training and development opportunities.

Grant Objectives

The program aims to:

  • Increase opportunities for women and girls to participate, lead and thrive in community sport and active recreation.
  • Support women and girls to complete training or accreditation that furthers their involvement in sport (e.g. coaching, officiating, good governance, sports training).
  • Build inclusive sporting environments that encourage and value gender equity.
  • Support clubs and organisations to improve gender balance in leadership and decision-making roles.

Guidelines and Assessment Criteria

The Change Our Game Funding Guidelines provide further information on eligibility and what is required to submit an application.

Change Our Game – Club Resources

Through the Change Our Game initiative, we are being encouraged to challenge gender stereotypes and drive greater inclusion within the community for all women and girls.

Fair Access Policy

The Fair Access Policy seeks to address known barriers experienced by women and girls in accessing and using community and sporting infrastructure. The Policy aims to progressively build capacity and capabilities of Wellington Shire Council in the identification, and elimination of systemic causes of gender inequality in policy, programs, communications, and delivery of services in relation to community sports infrastructure.
