Catalogue

Wellington Libraries operates as part of Public Libraries Victoria, and due to changes to the courier service of shared loans via Libraries Victoria, items sourced from outside our library network will be temporarily unavailable. From Monday 17 October 2022, you will not be able to request items from other Libraries Victoria libraries. Once reinstated library users will experience improved Libraries Victoria services across the Wellington network.

FAQs for temporary disruption to the Libraries Victoria holds service

  • Will I be able to request items from other Libraries Victoria libraries for pick up in Wellington? No, sharing between Libraries Victoria partners is temporarily unavailable.
  • Why is there a disruption to services? Public Libraries Victoria is required to move to a new state-wide courier service for our interlibrary loans. This will take place over the next few months.
  • Why can’t I see items from other libraries on the catalogue? Because sharing has been temporarily halted, to reduce confusion item holdings of other libraries have been hidden from view.
  • Can I travel to other Libraries Victoria libraries and borrow their items? Yes, your card will still work at Libraries Victoria libraries, however, we are limited with transporting items between libraries at the moment.
  • How long will services be impacted for? At this point we do not have a date that services will be reinstated, it is anticipated that it could be a few months (early 2023).
  • What about the items that I currently have on loan from other libraries? You can retain this item as per normal and return it on the assigned due date.  Any existing holds or loans in the system will be processed as normal.
  • What about the holds that I currently have on items from other libraries? These holds will be processed as normal.  No new holds can be placed until the system is reinstated.
  • Can I still return items borrowed from other Libraries Victoria libraries to Wellington Libraries? Yes, items can still be returned to any Libraries Victoria library.
  • I really need access to a particular item that you do not own, will I still be able to get it? We can still try to source items using alternative methods. Please speak with library staff who will investigate if a title can be sourced.  This process can take longer though so we appreciate your patience during this time.

For more information, please contact Wellington Libraries on (03) 5142 3146. We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary change may cause you.

In the meantime, you can still search the library collection of Wellington Shire, log into your account, manage your loans and join the library online
