National Tree Day on Sunday 28 July and Wellington Shire Council invites everyone to get outside and get dirty!
The planting kicks off at 11.30am at the Island Reserve in Maffra (near the skate park) and will be followed by a free BBQ.
The event’s purpose is to create one million new native plants across the country.
Wellington Shire Council Mayor Alan Hall said that he looked forward to seeing all ages of the community engage in this event connecting community members with their fellow neighbours and the environment.
“Get out there and get your gardening gear on for this great initiative,” he said.
“All you need to bring is a water bottle, hat, gloves and some sturdy shoes.
“Create some new life in our communities and celebrate our future wellbeing.”
National Tree Day is Australia’s biggest community tree planting and nature protection event.
