Donations are accepted by the library, please contact your local branch to discuss donations.

Book Club

Is your book club looking for new and varied reading material?

We have a large catalogue of book sets, which are available for loan by existing book clubs throughout Wellington Shire.

Our book club sets consist of 8 - 10 copes of each book, and can be borrowed as a set by a nominated member of your book club.

Book club sets can be borrowed by a nominated member for 12 weeks and are subject to availability.

Local History Resources

Reference Collection

Our reference collection, housed at our Sale Library, contains printed material of social and historical significance to Wellington Shire and surrounds. Items in this collection are not available for loan but can be utilised within any of our library branches.

Local Newspapers

We have a large collection of local newspapers that are available for viewing in branch at our Maffra, Sale and Yarram libraries.

Wellington Shire Archives

Council holds information and listings of records and objects held by the former Shires of Avon, Alberton, Maffra, Rosedale and the City of Sale.

The collection includes most rate books, Council minute books and memorabilia from the former shires.

Historical Resources

National Library

TROVE provides access to resources about Australia and Australians, including many resources in the National Library of Australia's collection. Items available to view online include books, pictures, journals, digitised newspapers, videos and much more.

Victoria has well over 100 individual newspaper titles online through Trove. New newspapers are constantly being added to the website.  Local newspapers already digitised include:

  • Gippsland Mercury (Sale, Vic.1914 to 1918).
  • Gippsland Times (Vic. 1861 to 1954).
  • The Maffra Spectator (Vic. 1882 to 1920).

Library of Things

The Library of Things is a new initiative that gives library members access to a growing collection of useful items- all for free!

To sign up for a Library of Things membership, please complete the membership agreement form.

This initiative gives library members access to a range of useful items to borrow for free, helping the community save money, reduce waste, and make the most of what’s available.

The collection will continue to grow over time, offering more ways for people to access what they need, when they need it. All you need is a free library membership to start borrowing.
