The Maffra Youth Play Project and Pump Track

As part of the Wellington Youth Play Plan developed in 2018, it was identified that the existing Maffra Skate Park should be enhanced to cater for a wider users and abilities. Year 9 students from Maffra Secondary College presented Council with the concept of constructing an asphalt pump track in the area to increase activation of the space, cater for a wider range of experiences and provide more opportunities for people of all ages to be active in open spaces.

Funded through the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, the project will improve the site by constructing an asphalt pump track to create a much more active and dynamic precinct.

Common Ground, international track and trail builders has been appointed to design and construct the new Maffra Pump Track.

A pump track is designed in such a way that the user, be it mountain bike, BMX, scooter and even roller blades, does not need to push or pedal – it is all done on momentum.

The space will cater for all levels of experience, meaning that even the young, or young at heart can start at the recommended beginner’s space and advance through as technical skills develop.

We are seeking your feedback to determine the layout of the final track. Simply view the track layouts below and select which of the three layouts (1, 2 or 3) you like and fill in the short survey. The most popular track layout will then be constructed early in 2021.
