Wellington Shire Council is again calling on community groups seeking up to $5,000 in project funding to apply for the first round of Community Assistance Grants for 2021.

Applications open Friday 15 January for Wellington Shire not-for-profit groups seeking funding of $2,001 to $5,000 in the following categories:

Community events – events that celebrate our community and increase the range of activities that the wider community can access and be a part of. This includes festivals, open days, forums, anniversaries and more.

Community projects – projects that are important to the community, including such things as accessible equipment, community gardens, project and strategic planning, feasibility studies and event-management plans.

Community facilities – applications will be considered for minor capital works projects that increase the access and use of a facility for the community, such as building extensions, accessibility improvements and shade shelters.

Applications will be able to be made via the Wellington Shire Council website, using the SmartyGrants online system, which makes the grant-application process smooth and simple.

The SmartyGrants application form offers handy prompts to remind you to answer a question, it can tell you if an answer makes your application ineligible, and it can be shared online among your team-members, via a secure log-in, so everyone can contribute.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Garry Stephens noted that Council is here to assist with questions about the applications or the new SmartyGrants system.

“Remember, if you need a hand, Council staff are ready to help. Our Grants Officer can be contacted for assistance if you have questions about filling out the application form,” Cr Stephens said.

Council offer two rounds of Community Assistance Grants, with applications open in January and June. There are also Quick Response Grants of up to $2,000 for events, projects and facilities, which are open all year round.

Round one applications open 9.00am Friday 15 January, and close 4.00pm Tuesday 2 March 2021. For more information, visit www.wellington.vic.gov.au/communitygrants.
