Crossley and Bye to form a formidable team
Issued:
November 9, 2017

Wellington Shire Councillor Carolyn Crossley was today elected Mayor for a second consecutive term, with Councillor Ian Bye elected Deputy Mayor.

Both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were elected unopposed and unanimously by the council.

Mayor Crossley accepted the nomination for her second term in an effort to continue the work.

“The past 12 months have been incredibly busy not only for the Council as a whole, but particularly in the role of Mayor,” Cr Crossley said.

“We have worked very hard as a Council to complete the 2017-2021 Council Plan, which builds upon the Wellington 2030 Community Vision and establishes the actions Council will take over the next four years.

“It made sense for me to put my hand up for the role of Mayor for a second term so that I could start seeing the Council Plan come to fruition.

“It’s also been a tough year with the issues surrounding the ASH timber mill, the flow-on effects of the Hazelwood closure, uncertainty around milk prices and job security with Murray Goulburn.

“Having a second term will allow me to continue this advocacy work for our region, along with all the exciting projects the Council is working on.”

With just one year under his belt as a Councillor, Ian Bye accepted the nomination as Deputy Mayor so he could “learn the ropes”.

“What better person to teach me the way to take on a leadership position in Council than Mayor Crossley,” Cr Bye said.

“I look forward to Cr Crossley’s guidance and a challenging year ahead in the role of Deputy Mayor.”
