Community assistance grants open for 2018
Issued:
January 15, 2019

Wellington Shire Council is calling on community groups seeking up to $5,000 project funding to apply for the first round of Community Assistance Grants for 2018.

Applications are now open for the grants, available to assist in the funding of initiatives that build capacity, promote participation and work together to maintain community assets and support cultural development.

Funding applications are currently being invited from not for profit groups seeking funding of $2,001 to $5,000 in the following categories:

  • Community Events - applications will be considered for events that celebrate the community, or aspects of culture and identity.
  • Community Projects - applications will be considered for projects that fulfil a demonstrated community need and benefit the diverse community.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Carolyn Crossley said previous successful applicants presented strong cases of how Council funding would greatly benefit the communities of Wellington Shire.

“In the last funding round, we were proud to support 14 projects totalling more than $55,000,” Cr Crossley said.

“We also assisted in the funding of 18 shire-wide events, to the sum of more than $81,000.

“I look forward to seeing a broad range of applications again through this round of Community Assistance Grants and encourage groups considering seeking funding to send in their applications before 4.00pm on Thursday 1 March.”

This year, Council will also hold information sessions to assist community organisations with their applications.

These sessions will be held at the Wellington Shire Council Sale Service Centre, Desailly Street, Sale on:

  • Wednesday 24 January, 12.00pm
  • Tuesday, 30 January, 9.30am
  • Wednesday, 7 February, 4.00pm

Bookings essential by contacting Community Wellbeing on 5142 3186. Council offers two rounds of Community Assistance Grants each year, in winter and summer, as well as Quick Response Grants of up to $2,000 for minor community events, projects and facilities which are available all year round.
