Cameron project gets exciting with new court roof going up
February 12, 2020

Things are getting exciting in Maffra, with the roof going up above the new courts as part of the redevelopment of Cameron Stadium.

Almost half of Stage 1 is now complete of the $8.99 million redevelopment.

Along with the framing and roofing of the two new courts, other work completed so far includes new changeroom and storeroom structures, and the show court has been refurbished including a lighting upgrade and expansion of seating.

Preparations are now taking place for Stage 2 of the project, which involves expansion of the gymnastics area including high roof extension, refurbishment of existing amenities and circulation spaces and development of access roads and formalised parking.

Stage 2 is currently anticipated to commence in June, with the project estimated to be completed by March 2021.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Alan Hall said there had been wide-spread interest in the redevelopment project.

“Our local basketball, netball, gymnastics and volleyball communities have a very large stake in this redevelopment because they have a lot to gain when this project is complete,” he said.

“But the excitement doesn’t end there, because this redevelopment will also be an incredible asset to the wider Maffra community with its multi-use features. The completed Cameron Sporting Complex Stadium Redevelopment Project will provide the Maffra community with the very latest sporting facilities and dynamic meeting and collaboration spaces.”

The project is being funded thanks to $4.74 million from the Wellington Shire Council, $3 million from the Victorian Government’s Better Indoor Stadiums, $1 million from the Latrobe Valley Authority’s Community and Facility Fund and $250,000 from the Maffra Amateur Basketball Association and Maffra Gymnastic Club.
