The $387,750 upgrade is being delivered through a strong funding partnership. The Victorian Government, through the 2025–26 Country Football and Netball Program, is contributing $200,000, alongside $162,750 from Wellington Shire Council. Local support includes $12,500 each from the Woodside Recreation Reserve Committee of Management and the Woodside & District Football Netball Club.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Cr Scott Rossetti said the upgrade reflects Council’s commitment to creating inclusive and sustainable facilities:

“Council is proud to support the LED lighting upgrade at Woodside Recreation Reserve because it puts our policies into action – especially our Fair Access Policy, our Council Plan commitment to climate resilience, and our Gender Equality Action Plan. It reflects our commitment to fair access, safety and sustainability.

Modern lighting will make the oval safer for players and spectators, reduce energy costs, and encourage more people to get involved in sport. It opens up more opportunities for evening sport, particularly for women, girls and all abilities participants.

This project is about creating inclusive, well-lit spaces that meet sporting code standards while delivering sustainable facilities for our community.”

State Government Representative and Member for Eastern Victoria- Tom McIntosh MP said

“Local grounds are so important to communities. This upgrade will ensure Woodside have better facilities which helps playing numbers, club volunteers, crowds, and other community events at the reserve which supports the whole district"

Last Monday, Mayor Rossetti and Tom McIntosh MP visited Woodside to inspect the grounds and upgraded clubrooms. They were given a personal tour by Woodside Recreation Reserve representative Andrea Walpole and expressed their excitement to see the lighting upgrades commence next year, creating new opportunities for local sport and community events.
