Nominations now open for 2021 Australia Day Awards
Issued:

Do you know someone who has helped make Wellington Shire a better place?

Whether through the arts, sport, education, environment, health, community welfare or acts of charity, we all know someone who deserves recognition for the hard work they do for the community.

The Wellington Shire 2021 Australia Day Awards offer a chance to recognise the local heroes who have made Wellington a better place to live. And nominations are open now.

This year has been tumultuous and challenging - and Wellington’s community has shown fortitude as it faced down the bushfire season and COVID-19 pandemic. So the awards will be even more special than usual.

Award categories this year comprise the Australia Day Citizen Award and Young Citizen Award (25 and under) and the Community Group of the Year Award.

In addition, Wellington Shire Council has introduced a new award, Covid Hero, to recognise the selfless efforts and courage shown by those who stepped up to work on the frontline of the coronavirus battle.

In previous years, Wellington Shire Council has asked residents to nominate an Event of the Year. This year, COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of most events. Therefore, the Event category has been suspended this year.

To nominate a person or a group that has gone above and beyond for our community, visit wellington.vic.gov.au/ausdayawards2021.

Online nominations close Saturday 31 October.
