Have your say on the places where you play, walk, rest and explore

Wellington Shire Council is inviting the community to have its say on how Wellington’s open spaces - playgrounds, parks, natural bushland, rail trails, walking tracks, sports reserves and more – are used, enjoyed and maintained.

Wellington Shire Council is drafting its Public Open Space Strategy 2026-2036, and it wants to hear what the community loves, what could be better, and what residents would like to see in the future.

From a favourite local park to a walking track on every weekend, these spaces play a vital role in Wellington’s wellbeing, recreation, and connection to nature.

They facilitate health, recreation and leisure, like organised sports, exercise, children’s play and social activities, as well as quiet reflection in an attractive setting. Open spaces also contribute to attractive towns and neighbourhoods, where people want to live and socialise.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Councillor Scott Rossetti said the feedback would help guide Council’s planning and investment in open spaces for years to come.

“These are the places we go to walk the dog, kick a footy, meet friends, or enjoy some quiet time outdoors,” Councillor Rossetti said.

“Feedback is welcome from all users of open spaces, including families, sporting groups, walkers, cyclists, nature lovers, and others who spend time outdoors. We want to make sure our public open spaces continue to meet the needs of our growing and diverse community.”

Residents can have their say by completing an online survey at your.wellington.vic.gov.au or attending a pop-up session across the Shire. During the next month, Council officers will be hosting pop-up sessions in Sale, Maffra, Rosedale, Heyfield, Stratford, Yarram, Port Albert, Alberton, Loch Sport, Golden Beach and Seaspray. For specific dates and locations, visit your.wellington.vic.gov.au

Consultation closes August 8. For more information, phone our Open Space Planning Officer on 1300 366 244.
