After Hours Emergency
1300 366 244The state government’s $23 million program is making it easier for women, girls and anyone who gets their period to access period products in public places, whether they’re at school, work, sport or out enjoying community life.
Since launching in November 2024, more than 90,000 packs have already been dispensed, saving Victorian families hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Locally, free pads and tampons will be available in Wellington libraries from the following dates:
• Rosedale Library - already available
• Sale Library - Wednesday, 27 August 2025
• Heyfield Library, Maffra Library and Stratford Library - Thursday, 28 August 2025
• Yarram Library - Wednesday, 3 September 2025
Wellington Shire Council Mayor Cr Scott Rossetti said the rollout was a welcome addition for locals, noting that “having free pads and tampons in our libraries is a simple way to support those who are vulnerable or struggling with the cost of living and making ends meet. I am sure this initiative will go a long way to making life a little bit easier.”
He added that Council was proud to see Wellington included in the statewide initiative. “This program is about making sure everyone has access to the essentials. It’s practical, it reduces stress, and it ensures no one misses out,” Cr Rossetti said.
The program is rolling out across Victoria in partnership with councils, ensuring products are available in every corner of the state from hospitals and TAFEs to sporting stadiums, museums, markets and now libraries.
As this is a Victorian Government initiative, the supply of free pads and tampons in Wellington libraries is dependent on ongoing funding and decisions made at the state government level.
