Proposed Renaming of Earl Street, Woodside

Proposed renaming of a road under the provisions of the Geographic Place Names Act 1998 Earl Street, Woodside, is currently comprised of three detached segments which Council’s Place Names Committee proposes to rename as follows:

  • Section northwest of High Street: Rename to Buntine Road, after a prominent settler in the district.
  • Section east of High Street: To remain as Earl Street.
  • Section north of Victoria Street: Rename to Lear Street, in recognition of Eric Nightingale

Lear who died during the First World War and is commemorated on the Won Wron State School honour roll.

Public comment on the proposed names is invited and may be made in writing to Place Names Committee, Wellington Shire Council, PO Box 506, Sale VIC 3850 or via email to PlaceNames@wellington.vic.gov.au.

Submissions will be accepted no later than 30 January 2018.
