What to do if approached by an aggressive dog

• Stand still and do not run.
• Keep your hands by your side.
• Stay quiet and avoid making noise.
• Avoid eye contact and look at the ground.
• Once the dog loses interest, slowly back away.

How to safely approach a dog

• Always ask the owner's permission before patting a dog.
• Approach from an angle rather than directly from the front.
• Slowly extend the back of your hand with fingers curled under and allow the dog to sniff.
• Pat the dog on the side of the chest, shoulders or under the chin.
• Stop if the dog backs away or shows no interest in interacting.
