In a first for the Shire, Wellington Shire Council, in partnership with Wellington Youth Services Network, has developed a draft Wellington Youth Strategy for the next three years.

The document was approved for release for public feedback at Council’s Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday 18 July 2017.

The Wellington Youth Strategy 2017-2020 has been developed to guide Council’s interactions and decision-making that effects young people across the Shire. The draft document has been informed from a survey completed by over 1,100 young people during the second half of 2016 and three forums involving youth workers and agencies that deliver youth services across Wellington Shire.

The themes that make up the strategy include, being loved and safe, having material basics, being healthy, learning, participating and a positive sense of culture and identity.

Wellington Shire Council General Manager Community & Culture Glenys Butler said: “Council will work in partnership with Wellington Youth Services Network to focus on these priority areas over the next three years. We will also be looking to our Youth Council and others working with youth in our community to support the objectives and implement the actions that have been identified.”

Council is seeking community feedback on the draft Wellington Youth Strategy 2017-2020. Comments and feedback can be made through a variety of ways, in writing, verbal or through the Youth Council Facebook Page.

In another first for Council, members of the community can provide their feedback on the Wellington Shire Youth Council Facebook Page. People can either inbox a private message or post comments. Council would like to remind people that any comments posted to the page are publicly available for others to see and comment on, and do not protect a person’s privacy or confidentiality.

All submissions must be received between 5pm Friday 1 September 2017.
