The Spirit of the ANZACS returns to The Wedge

Wellington Shire Council and The Wedge Performing Arts Centre invite the community to step back in time with the return of the much-loved production The Spirit of the ANZACS.

Presented by Promac Australia, the performance will take place at The Wedge Performing Arts Centre in Sale at 7.30pm on Thursday 23 April 2026 and commemorates the enduring spirit of the ANZACS and Vietnam veterans, paying tribute to lives shaped by service, sacrifice and resilience.”

Set against the backdrop of enormous global change, The Spirit of the ANZACS takes audiences on an insightful journey through the 1940s, 50s and 60s, combining timeless music, heartfelt letters from soldiers, compelling storytelling and striking imagery projected on the big screen. The production captures moments of courage, loss, hope and humour, offering a deeply human perspective into the lives forever shaped by war.

The performance features iconic songs from much loved artists including The Andrews Sisters, Vera Lynn, Bob Dylan, John Denver and Tom Jones, with favourites such as Blue Moon, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Green Green Grass of Home, Leaving on a Jet Plane, Blowin’ In The Wind, You’ll Never Walk Alone and The Band Played Waltzing Matilda. A stirring arrangement of Bring Him Home from Les Misérables adds to the emotional depth of this acclaimed production, ensuring an experience that lingers long after the final note.

Led by star tenor Roy Best, the Promac Company also features international soprano Alison Jones, narrator and compere Christopher McKenna, and virtuoso pianist William Schmidt. Together, they deliver a performance that is both reverent and uplifting, with moments of warmth and reflection that connect audiences across generations.

Now regarded as a cherished tradition at The Wedge, The Spirit of the ANZACS continues to sell out theatres nationwide and holds special significance in the leadup to ANZAC Day. The production, which runs for one hour and forty minutes including a twenty-minute interval, is dedicated to the brave men and women who gave their lives in service of Australia and is the only fully sanctioned production permitted to use the word “ANZACS”, approved by the Australian Government’s Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
