Wellington Shire Council is excited that repair works at the Historic Swing Bridge will begin soon.

April last year saw the Historic Swing Bridge fall victim to an act of vandalism which caused an axle to bend and the bottom roller beam to crack. At the time of inspecting the damage engineers discovered a series of age-related stress cracks that were also cause for concern.

Much to the disappointment of residents and visitors alike, the bridge has since been out of action.

Wellington Shire Council General Manager Built and Natural Environment Chris Hastie says: “Works are due to commence once safe access for the workers has been provided to enable them to start the repair works including removing cast iron sections of the central roller beams and replacing them.

“The replacement of the roller axle damaged by vandalism last year will also be completed during this time.”

Safe access to the bridge is expected to be completed in March with the repair works commencing shortly thereafter.
