Port of Sale Moorings Project gets underway
Issued:
May 11, 2023

Construction is now underway on the $1.7 million upgrade to the Port of Sale boat moorings, located in the heart of Sale at the popular Port of Sale cultural precinct.

This is the first major investment project identified in the Port of Sale Master Plan, which will include significant upgrades to the West Bank of the Port, including better access to moored boats and improvements to the overall amenity and accessibility along the waterfront.

The Port of Sale Master Plan was first adopted by Council in October 2021 following extensive engagement with the community and key stakeholders. It sets out a strategic vision for the precinct that will support the economic and sustainable growth of the Shire.

Works will take place over three stages and include a new concrete sea wall with 18 double berth jetties, with new stern piles.

The upgrades will be delivered by the Carter Marine Group, who are experienced in the design, construction, and installation of jetties. Each stage will take approximately ten weeks to complete, with the project expected to be completed late 2023.

During each stage, moorings will be unavailable for use. Council has worked proactively with the Port of Sale Boat Club throughout the design process including arranging for works to be staged to minimise disruption.

Recreational boating users should be aware that the Port of Sale boat ramp will be limited to one lane during the project.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Ian Bye said that Council is really excited to see this project get underway.

“This is the first significant upgrade to the Port of Sale since the redevelopment of the Wellington Centre to a state-of-the-art cultural hub in 2018. Once complete, the long advocated for improvements will better meet the needs of mooring holders, the Port of Sale Boat Club and improve the overall amenity of the precinct” Cr Bye said.

Commodore of the Port of Sale Boat Club, Bryan Cumming further commented,

“The Port of Sale Boat Club would like to thank the Wellington Shire for allowing them to be part of this project. This project will benefit greatly to all those that will use this area in the future”.
