Learn about Community Energy
Issued:
June 30, 2017

Following on from the hugely successful information session on energy saving in April this year, Wellington Shire Council is hosting another information evening that concentrates on Community Energy.

Access to affordable and renewable energy sources is a challenge and communities from all over the world are coming together to create community owned and community run renewable energy projects.

Community Energy involves the community initiating, developing, operating, owning and/or benefiting from renewable energy projects from sources such as wind, solar, bioenergy and hydro power.

There are currently over 80 community energy groups in Australia operating 50 community energy projects that are providing income, employment and energy for their regions.

Council, in partnership with Gippsland Climate Change Network (GCCN), is hosting a Community Energy information evening on Tuesday 18 July 2017 at the Sale Baptist Church from 7pm to 9pm.

There will be three guest presenters, Chris Weir President of Bendigo Sustainability Group, Peter Maruff from AusNet Services Customer Engagement Team and Ian Southall from GCCN and Mirboo North Community Energy. All of the speakers have been involved in innovative renewable energy projects involving community groups and are keen to share their experience and expertise with you.

The event is free to attend but spaces are limited. So, to register visit  eventbrite/communityenergybooking.

For further information, please contact Council’s Sustainability Officer on 1300 366 244.
