Wellington Shire Council has teamed up with Maffra and District Landcare and Wellington Scout Group to host a free tree planting event as part of Planet Ark’s National Tree Planting Day.

National Tree Day is Australia’s biggest community tree-planting day, promoting planting and caring for native trees and plants.

To celebrate this fantastic initiative, members of the community are being urged to get involved and come along to the Island Reserve (near the skate park) in Maffra on Sunday 30 July from 10.30am.

Wellington Shire Council General Manager Built and Natural Environment Chris Hastie says, “Council has been involved in Planet Ark’s National Tree Day for some years now. It is a great opportunity to connect with members of the community and get them involved in doing something good for our environment and experience the many benefits that come from spending time in nature.”

Tools and equipment will be supplied, we recommend you wear sturdy shoes and a free BBQ lunch will also be provided.

For further information on National Tree Day please visit treeday.planetark.org or contact Council’s Sustainability Officer on 1300 366 244.
