Due to recent fires and floods and the risk of these weather events progressing throughout summer, Wellington Shire Council has made the difficult decision to cancel Day @ The Port, scheduled for 3 February 2024.

Council had planned to host the second Day @ The Port event in 2024 following a successful event earlier this year. However, continued emergency events means that Council’s budget priority must turn to community recovery, and planning for the likelihood of further emergencies across the municipality. It is important that budget and resourcing is available to respond to challenges like this.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ian Bye said the decision, though challenging was made with the wellbeing of everyone in mind.

“It was essential to make this decision well in advance to give attendees and suppliers time to make alternative plans. The last thing that we want to do is inconvenience local businesses and service operators.”

“The situation we find ourselves in is incredibly disappointing, but luckily, we still have an amazing lineup of incredible events planned for The Middle of Everywhere next year. Notably, the ANZAC Weekend Airshow at West Sale Airport, the blockbuster Annemieke Mein Exhibition at the Gippsland Art Gallery and the Sale Music Festival in the heart of Sale to name a few.

More events and activations across the municipality will be announced in the new year, but until then, we will continue to do all we can to support our community through recovery efforts and the ongoing effects of repeated fire and floods”. Cr Bye said.
