Council’s Renewable Energy and Defence officer here to help locals
Issued:
February 22, 2024

Local businesses are encouraged to think about the role they could play in energy transition or supporting Defence, as Wellington Shire Council seeks to secure the best long-term economic outcomes for the community.

Wellington Shire Council’s Economic Development Officer for Defence and Renewable Energy Kirsten Power is supporting local businesses to get the most out of $40 billion in planned renewable energy investment across the region, as well as recent and ongoing development at RAAF Base, East Sale.

By engaging with Council’s newly-appointed Officer, local businesses can benefit from supply-chain inclusion and employment. As a valuable information point, the role includes helping employers navigate accreditations, amend business plans and liaise with authorities and agencies to direct people to relevant programs.

Kirsten participates in state government forums, holding meaningful, two-way engagement as a voice for Wellington’s future and local businesses. She is also involved in organising the Gippsland New Energy Conference, which annually brings together more than 1,000 people to discuss the future of clean energy in Gippsland.

Businesses are encouraged to contact Council’s Economic Development Officer for Defence and Renewable Energy at kirstenp@wellington.vic.gov.au to indicate their interest.

Appointed in 2023, the role continues to demonstrate Council’s commitment to renewable and new energy transition throughout Wellington Shire and broader Gippsland.

In 2021, the Wellington community identified climate change as their number one Council Plan priority, and Council has wasted no time supporting renewable energy investment and transition.

More detail about Council’s key renewable energy priorities can be found at www.wellington.vic.gov.au/renewableplanning.
