Community invited to shape future path network

Council is inviting residents to have their say on the Draft Urban Paths Plan, which will help guide future walking and shared path connections across the municipality.

Wellington Shire Council is inviting community members to help shape the future of walking and shared path connections across the municipality by providing feedback on the Draft Urban Paths Plan.

The Urban Paths Plan provides a long-term roadmap for the development of footpaths and shared paths across Wellington Shire's township areas. First adopted in 2019, the plan identifies priority projects that improve connectivity, accessibility and safety, helping residents travel more easily between key destinations including schools, parks, sporting facilities, community services, shops and public transport.

Since the plan was adopted, Council has delivered more than 34 kilometres of new walking and cycling paths, completing 60 projects across Wellington Shire and significantly improving connections within local communities.

As part of the review, Council is seeking feedback from residents of all ages and abilities, including people who walk, ride bicycles, use wheelchairs or mobility aids, push prams, walk their dogs, or simply enjoy being active in their community.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Cr Cindy Madeley encouraged residents to get involved and help identify path priorities for the future.

"Our path network plays an important role in keeping communities connected, active and accessible," Cr Madeley said.

"We have delivered significant improvements since the Urban Paths Plan was first adopted, but we know there is still more work to do. This review is an opportunity for residents to tell us where the gaps are, which projects matter most to them, and how we can make it easier and safer for people to move around their towns."

Community members can provide feedback via an online survey on Council’s ‘Your Wellington Your Say’ website from Monday 12 October until Sunday 8 November 2026. The survey will help Council understand community priorities and highlight areas where new or improved paths may be needed.
