February 21, 2017

With National Clean Up Australia Day to take place on Sunday 5 March, Wellington Shire’s Youth Council would like to invite community members, clubs and organisations to get involved.

Wellington Shire Council Youth Mayor Alex Nair, says “Whether it be just yourself, a group of friends or your sporting team we would like to invite anyone who is interested in participating in Clean Up Australia Day to join us. The morning will start with rubbish collection and will finish with a BBQ lunch.”

“Clean Up Australia Day is a fantastic community event and this year the Youth Council will be focusing on the area between Sale and Longford.

“Any individual, group, club or organisation looking to join us on the day can meet at this year’s starting point the Swing Bridge at 10:30am with sturdy footwear, a hat and drink bottle, we will have gloves and bags at the ready.”

A national event Clean Up Australia Day has been held every year since its humble begins in 1989. Since then it has continued to grow and has seen Australians collect well over 331 thousand tonnes of rubbish to date. More information about organising your own event or other national events can be found at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au.

Wellington Shire Council Youth Council are confident this year’s clean-up efforts will be a huge success given the events history.
