Council back on Facebook

On 26 March 2024, our main Facebook page (Wellington Shire Council) was unexpectedly unpublished by Meta, the parent company of Facebook. This action took us by surprise and highlighted that even as a regional local government council, we are still vulnerable to the unpredictable decisions of global social media giants.

The Wellington Shire Council Facebook page was not removed intentionally, it appears to have stemmed from a Facebook update. We’ve been actively engaging with Meta to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, however there has been no outcome to date.

For more than five years, we have built a transparent and honest online community, attracting a following of over 20,000 people across digital channels, who actively engage with our content. Understanding the value of this connection, we have prioritised a new Wellington Shire Council Facebook page to keep building relationships with the local community

If you have a Facebook account and are comfortable to do so, we would appreciate your help building our new Facebook page by following us here and sharing with family and friends. You can also simply search for ‘Wellington Shire Council’ using the Facebook search function.

Going forward we are focusing on all the communication channels and databases available to us, ensuring that we can always communicate quickly with our community. You can follow Wellington Shire Council online using the links below.
