Occupation

Managers are the most prominent occupation in Wellington Shire, providing employment to 20% of the total workforce. Professionals were the next most common form of occupation (16%), followed by Technicians and trade workers (15%) and Labours (12%).

Compared to Gippsland and Victoria, Wellington has a relatively larger portion of Managers in the shire with comparable numbers in each of the occupations.

Between 2001 and 2006, there was a significant increase in the employment in Labourers (17.7%), Sale workers (14%), Professionals (11.4%) and Community & personal service workers (11.3%) occupations in Wellington Shire.

Overall, Wellington has a large proportion of residents working within the boundaries of their residence. However, a number of Labourers and Technicians and Trade workers are commuting outside the shire for employment.
