| Melbourne Metro Patient Assistance Initiative | |
| The Let’s GET Connected Transport Initiative coordinates travel assistance (locally and in Melbourne) for rural patients travelling to Melbourne hospitals for specialist medical treatment or outpatient services.
The project employs local volunteer assisted travel to get people from home to their nearest train station or V/line bus stop which is mainly coordinated in the Gippsland East areas via community health centres. Upon arriving in Melbourne a Red Cross car picks the person up outside the Southern Cross Railway Station ensuring safe arrival and transfer to their Melbourne destination.
If assistance is required to get the person from the platform to the waiting Red Cross car, arrangements can be made for Travellers Aid staff to assist with an escort of buggy service. | |
