| Personal Travel Wellington Shire is located approximately 170 kilometres from Melbourne travelling along the Princes Highway.
Travel time to Melbourne has improved with the development of the Pakenham bypass, a $242 million project running from Beaconsfield to Nar Nar Goon. The four lane freeway bypasses the townships of Pakenham and Officer, improving travel time and safety while reducing traffic congestion.
An upgrade of the rail line between Melbourne and Bairnsdale has improved train services from Sale to Melbourne. There are three rail passenger services Monday to Saturday running to and from Melbourne, and two passenger services on Sundays. Travel time is 2.5 hours with passenger stations at Rosedale, Sale and Stratford.
V/line have a number of connecting bus services which travel to Melbourne from Sale, Maffra, Heyfield and Yarram. For bus and rail service timetables please visit the V/line website.
West Sale aerodrome and Parkside Aerodrome (Yarram) provide an alternative means of getting to Wellington with chartered flights available to individuals.
Freight There are a number of road and rail freight services between Wellington and Melbourne.
Local road freight companies offer both heavy and light freight services to deliver goods throughout Victoria and interstate. A freight service operates from Melbourne to Bairnsdale and connects to the national rail network and the Melbourne and Geelong ports. | |
