Gas

Utilities and Infrastructure in Wellington
The Gippsland Basin situated 20km from Sale, 220km east of Melbourne is the largest supplier of gas in the state with more than 90 per cent of Victoria’s gas supply coming from the Bass Strait and Longford plants. The Bass Strait is the main supplier of Victoria’s gas supply and has been since the late 1960s.

Wellington Shire gas supply is extremely stable with sufficient reserves until 2030. The gas sold out of the Bass Strait is sold under the joint venture between ESSO and BHP Billiton to TXU Energy and AGL.

A quality supply of reticulated natural gas is available in Sale, Maffra and Rosedale. The residual townships have access to cylinder gas bottles. Retails providers of cylindered gas bottles and natural gas are listed below.
