| Employment within Wellington Shire is continuing to increase. The December quarter for 2006 saw 19 679 people employed in Wellington, presenting an increase of 0.4 per cent over a one year period.
Unemployment numbers have decreased by 79 per cent within the Shire with recent figures indicating 827 unemployed people. This is a significant decrease from the December quarter in 2005 when there were 1481 unemployed people in the Shire.
Over the past five years, employment within Wellington Shire has increased significantly by 18 per cent from 16 559 in the December quarter of 2001 to 19 679 in 2006. The number of unemployed people within the Shire has also dropped by 43 per cent over the past five years with an additional 355 individuals finding employment.

| Workforce Catchment | | Wellington’s workforce catchment is concentrated around Sale and the surrounding townships of Maffra, Heyfield, Rosedale and Stratford.
This principal catchment consists of over 11 400 highly skilled workers. The secondary and third catchments of over 15 900 extends the skilled and diverse workforce to just over 33 100 people. | |
