| Wellington Shire’s residential population has recently increased by 522 residents and is now the second largest local government area in the Gippsland region.
The shire has experienced an increase in residential population over the past five years in the major townships of Sale, Maffra, Rosedale, Heyfield, Yarram and Stratford. Stratford’s population has increased by 40 per cent, bringing the township’s population to 1950.
Heyfield, Rosedale and Maffra have also had a substantial increase in population. Heyfield’s current residential population increased 37 per cent to 2100, Maffra’s population increased 28 per cent and Rosedale’s population increased 36 per cent to 1486.
Population projections over the next five years show Wellington Shire’s population will increase by 3.48 per cent to a population of approximately 41 473 in 2011 and will continue to be above the 41 000 mark for the next 15 years.
