The Criterion Hotel

Introduction
The Criterion Hotel was once a landmark in Sale. Embedded in the history of the region, The Criterion closed in 2006 and has been unused since, with its physical condition rapidly deteriorating. Minster Constructions acquired the site in late 2006 and scoped plans for a hotel/restaurant, function area, upstairs accommodation facilities and an adjoining drive through liquor outlet.

The Criterion is due to be officially reopened in October 2011, which will enhance the Sale CBD, tourism throughout the Shire and the development of a culture of quality food and wine. Hoteliers, The Riordan Group, will take over management of the hotel upon completion.

The building is listed on the State and National Heritage registers and its most notable features include the verandah and main façade. The adjoining Commercial Travellers Sampling Room on York St will be preserved.

All enquiries can be directed to 1300 366 244.
