Mayor applauds regional rail funding but the Shire needs more

Mayor Carolyn Crossley welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement on providing funding to revive Gippsland’s regional rail network, including $95 million to replace the Avon River Bridge at Stratford, but she says the Shire needs more investment to improve services to and from Sale.

Spinning a good yarn at Café 123 in Sale

Thanks to an Age-Friendly community grant from Council, a Knit and Natter Club is now running at Café 123 in Sale. The idea was developed by local resident Judy Tulip who attended one of Council’s Age-Friendly lunches towards the end of last year.

Works underway on Special Charge Scheme road upgrade

Local community members urged to get involved in the Great Vic Bike Ride

The Great Vic Bike Ride will be riding its way through Wellington Shire from Monday 27 November to Saturday 2 December and Council has teamed up with Bicycle Network to host local community meetings to discuss community involvement.

Wellington Shire’s Road Management Plan Updated

At its Ordinary Council meeting on Tuesday 20 June 2017, Wellington Shire adopted the Road Management Plan 2017. Submission were received through the public consultation process and feedback has been incorporated in the plan where appropriate.

Yarram streetscape complete

Council’s $1.4 million refurbishment of the Yarram streetscape is now complete after months of hard work. The works took place along Commercial Road from the Yarram Courthouse to the BP Service Station.

Rezoning for proposed new Sale Sewerage Pump Station

Gippsland Water have submitted a Planning Scheme Amendment request to Council to rezone the land at 36-40 Foster Street and 4 Park Street in Sale and remove the Design and Development Overlay for the proposed new sewerage pump station.

Free vaccine program helps protect teens from Meningococcal disease

Teenagers, aged 15 to 19, are being offered a free Meningococcal vaccine to target the rise in the W strain of the disease. The vaccine program will be administered by Council through the secondary school immunisation process.

Application period open for Community Assistance Grants

Wellington Shire Council is inviting community groups and organisations to apply for a Community Assistance Grant, available for events, projects and facilities until 1 August 2017. The community facilities grant is also open and is only available once a year.
