The Wellington Shire Council encourages everyone in the community to be involved in some form of leisure, sport or fitness activity that they enjoy. The Shire is home to a variety of sporting clubs, recreation facilities, reserves and leisure venues which provide opportunities to be involved in many sports. fitness or leisure activities.
The Shire has:
More than 400 parks and reserves
570 different sporting and recreation clubs
8 indoor leisure venues
Over 50 playgrounds, community centres and neighbourhood houses

| Walking and Cycling|
Wellington Shire has many walking and cycling oportunities for residents and visitors.
We adopted our Walking and Cycling Strategic Plan 2012-16 in December 2012.
Inspiring Walks in Gippsland
This website showcases walks in Gippsland including five in Wellington. There is a Smart phone application that can also be downloaded for free from the website.
Gippsland Plains Rail Trail
The Gippsland Plains Rail Trail extends 67km from Traralgon to Stratford.
Rail trails are shared-use paths recycled from abandoned railway corridors. Usually managed by local councils for the enjoyment of the general public, rail trails can be used for a range of purposes including walking, cycling and horse riding.
This website provides information on all the rail trails in Australia including those in Gippsland.
Victoria Walks has all the tools, information and support you need to make your neighbourhood safer and more walker friendly.
This is an initiative of Victoria Walks and you are able to create or discover a range of walking maps for different purposes. Whether you want to explore what is at your own doorstep, take a scenic stroll around Victoria's premier destinations or schedule a 30-minute walking meeting around your workplace, this site will excite and inspire you to explore Victoria on foot.
Bicycle Network Victoria
Bicycle Network Victoriais a charity that promotes the health of the community. The organisation works with their supporters to get “More People Cycling More Often”and measurably grow the bike riding world. Their website has useful information on the benefits of cycling and cycling events and groups.

|Wellington Shire Council owns and operates 6 outdoor pool facilities and Aqua Energy an indoor complex for the use and enjoyment of residents and visitors. |

Casual entry, and a range of memberships provide access to all pools.
All children under 10 years of age must be supervised by a responsible person above the age of 16 years.
Lifeguards are on duty at every pool in the Wellington Shire and meet Royal Life Saving Society Australia standards.
