| | Open to amateur and professional artists in Australia, the John Leslie Art Prize is a biennial competition coordinated by the Gippsland Art Gallery Society.
Made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Patron of the Gallery, John Leslie O.B.E., the prize presents an opportunity for artists to win $10,000 non-acquisitive award for painting on land-related themes.

Shifting Landscapes – Focusing on the Natural World
Exhibition Dates: 4 October to 16 November 2008
The theme for the 2008 prize is paintings depicting the natural world with references to, and perceptions of, the important issues contained within.

|  | WINNER 2008 JOHN LESLIE ART PRIZE:
The judges were unanimous in their decision that this painting, Unimpeachable Pillars by Andrew Mezei was the outstanding painting in the exhibition and was worthy of the award.
The judges commended the winning work for its exquisite painting, strong composition, and its evocation of the impact of man on nature.
