| The Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund (GERF) was established in December 1978 in the wake of devastating bushfires, where a recognised lack of funding for those affected led local companies and community members to band together to raise funds for local victims. GERF is a recognised non-government, charitable organisation with established procedures in providing financial relief to victims of disasters in the Gippsland community.
It is a committee consisting entirely of volunteers, many of whom have experience in government and local industry. All funds raised by GERF are ploughed back into the community without a cent going towards operating costs or remuneration of its members.
The GERF committee are responsible for determining the criteria for those who are to receive funds and the priority order in which they are distributed to those affected by disasters in the Gippsland region. GERF work closely with other welfare agencies to ensure grants are made on an equitable basis and cross reference their data with these agencies to ensure there is no duplication in the allocation of funds. They may make public appeals for funds at their discretion.
The Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund is currently seeking cash donations from business and community members to provide for the needs of those impacted by fires.
Donations can be made in the following three ways:
In person at any National Australia Bank in Gippsland
By post C/- PO Box 508, Traralgon,3844
Online via the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund Website
