| Private landholders who have native vegetation or wetlands areas may qualify for a subsidy from Wellington Shire Council for vegetation protection and improvement works. Projects that may be funded include fencing to protect natural areas from stock, pest and weeds control and some revegetation projects where they enhance natural areas.
Applications will be considered on a case by case basis, generally up to $5000, depending on the scale of the project and the benefits it will provide.

| Environmental Grants: Frequently Asked Questions | | How do I apply? Download the grant application for below or pick up an application from the Wellington Shire Council service centre - 70 Foster St, Sale.
What is eligible to be funded? • Fencing gullies, streams, dams and rivers and replanting with vegetation native to that area • Fencing out wetlands and bushland • Extending upon existing native vegetation and linking patches of native vegetation together - this may include creating wind breaks and shelterbelts
Normally the materials to do the job are funded and the landholder supplies the labour component. Additionally the projects will be ranked by how much how much they are likely to improve the environment compared with the cost. Projects that are the best value for money, from an environmental perspective, will be funded. Projects must be within the Wellington Shire.
How much will be funded? Typically the amount of funding for a single project is between $1000 and $5000 although there is some flexibility.
When do I need to apply? Applications will be accepted between 13 August and 30 September 2012.
When do I need to get my project finished by? Grant recipients are given approximately 12 months to finish their project from the date their project is approved. After which time grant monies must be returned to the Wellington Shire council unless there are exceptional circumstances.
