Home>Waste, Litter and Recycling
| Council provides a household rubbish collection service each week and a recycling collection service each fortnight.
Landfill tips are located at Kilmany, Maffra and Rosedale. Transfer stations are located at Sale, Heyfield, Seaspray, Dargo, Stratford, Loch Sport and Yarram.
Not all residences in the Wellington Shire region receive kerbside garbage collection. Only those in declared collection areas will receive this service. A separate charge for waste management is shown on rates notices for those properties in declared collection areas. All serviced households in the Wellington Shire are provided with two wheelie bins, one of which is for exclusive recycling use.
The collection of waste, management of landfill and transfer stations, and provision of recycling services throughout the Wellington Shire is currently under contract to Toward Zero
For information regarding collection of rubbish, recycling and waste please contact Toward Zero on free call number 1300 130 129 or for general enquiries please contact the council on 1300 366 244.

| Environmental Sustainability Strategy | | Council adopted its Environmental Sustainability Strategy in 2011. Our vision is for Wellington to advance together on the pathway towards environmental responsibility, taking practical action now for a sustainable future.
The Environmental Sustainability Strategy outlines Wellington Shire Council’s commitment to our continuing journey towards environmental sustainability. It is about taking and supporting local action - doing our bit on our patch - living and working mindfully by using resources wisely and reducing our impact on the environment.
There are many ways in which Council works to become environmentally sustainable; some things we do in our offices include: | |
 | using a system to save emails directly to a database instead of printing a copy for future reference | | encouraging everyone to use a mug or glass rather using disposable cups | | having clearly marked recycling bins in tearooms and kitchens, and easily accessible recycling bins in offices to encourage recycling | | saving files to reusable memory sticks rather than CDs | | having worm farms for composting, reducing the amount of food scraps going into the rubbish bin | | setting printers and photocopiers to print everything double sided, effectively cutting our paper use in half | | emailing files to each other rather than printed copies | | reusing manila and arch lever folders as often as possible | | turning off computers when they are not being used | | using energy saving features on office equipment | | using energy efficient lighting in our offices | | use sensor lighting, so the lights only come on if someone is in the room | | using recycled paper | | recycling ink cartridges |
