Council is seeking community input regarding the attached Concept Plan for proposed improvements to the Maffra CBD precinct.
The plan is in response to previous feedback from the community to create a central active public space that is flexible and provides for a variety of social activities (such as community gatherings).
Linking in with Council’s already approved streetscape civil works along Johnson Street, the project will see the refurbishment of the rotunda, the construction of terraced grassed seating and the addition of raised garden beds that will also provide additional casual seating.
A key proposal of the concept is the construction of a raised shared pedestrian zone which will slow vehicle traffic allowing safe movement for pedestrians.
Council are also investigating the opportunity to close the turn in lane off Johnson Street adjacent to the Fig Tree. This will improve safety in the precinct, increase open space, as well as improve the health of this significant tree.
The project is in addition to agreed streetscape civil works which have commenced on the south side of Johnson Street. Similar works on the north side will be tendered in June 2019, with works on this side commencing when the south side works are completed around September 2019.
We acknowledge that there will be some impact during construction, however disruption will be minimised where possible during the works and construction will cease during the weeks leading up to Christmas.
The works proposed in the concept will require external funding support and once the community engagement process has been completed and the concept finalised Council will seek appropriate funding.
Depending on this funding, the project is scheduled for commencement in the 2020 – 2021 financial year.
If you would like to further discuss the concept, please contact Liam Cole on 1300 366 244, email firstname.lastname@example.org or complete the feedback form below. Feedback closes Friday 5 April 2019.
