Wellington Shire 2017 Youth Mayor has been elected

Wellington Shire’s Youth Council has held its first Youth Council meeting for 2017 where Youth Councillor Alex Nair was selected as the new Youth Mayor. 

 

The Youth Council for 2017 is made up of 16 Youth Councillors and as well as selecting Alex as the Youth Mayor, she will be supported by Abbey Tucker who has been elected as Deputy Youth Mayor and Kaitlin Woolford as Youth Council Secretary.

 

Newly elected Youth Mayor Alex Nair is a Year 11 student at Catholic College Sale. Alex is positive 2017 will be a year full of great achievements by the Youth Council.

 

"I have always aspired to help as many people as I possibly can and I enjoy being on the Youth Council. I am honoured to have be elected as the Youth Council Mayor this year and I look forward to the challenge of leading the Youth Council and working on some fantastic projects and initiatives for young people during the year," says the Youth Mayor.

 

"Having a positive influence on those around me as well as the Wellington youth community is something I not only strive for but am also very excited about."

 

This year Youth Council will continue to work closely with young people across the Shire to assist them voice their opinions and concerns on many issues. 

 

Participating in a wide variety of events and programs every year, such as Clean Up Australia Day and Youth Week, along with their attendances at many workshops throughout the year, Wellington’s Youth Council are continuing to have a positive effect on young people in the region.

 

Deputy Youth Mayor Abbey Tucker says “In my opinion, those who are born with an opportunity to raise their voice, must speak for those who are silenced, and that is what I intend to do as a Youth Councillor and Deputy Youth Mayor.”
