Wellington Shire Council is calling for expressions of interest from people across the Shire to organise an activity or event to celebrate the fifth annual Parks Week, which will be held from Saturday 3 March until Monday 12 March 2018.
This year, Parks Week attracted around 10,000 visitors across 11 events involving 15 volunteer community organisations. There was a host of activities and events such as Cinema Under the Stars, Music in the Mall, Medieval Fantasy Battle, Baby’s Day Out, Tours of Tarra Bulga National Park and the Sale Music Festival.
The expression of interest is open to all community groups, sporting clubs, businesses and individuals who would like to facilitate an event or activity during Parks Week 2018.
“Parks Week always has a fantastic program of activities and events that the whole family can enjoy,” said Wellington Shire Council Mayor Carolyn Crossley.
“This is a great opportunity for everyone to engage with the broader community while enjoying some of the many parks and public open spaces Wellington Shire has to offer.”
“We are always looking for new and innovative ideas to enhance the Parks Week program. So, if any individuals or groups have ideas for activities and events that can be run in one of our diverse choice of parks, then I encourage them to contact us and fill out an expression of interest form,” concluded the Mayor.
Council is looking to support events or activities that provide an opportunity for Wellington Shire residents and visitors to celebrate the important role public open spaces play in the health and wellbeing of our community.
Organisations conducting programs during Parks Week can benefit from a number of opportunities:
- Event/activity location and park infrastructure support
- Potential funding and/or equipment support
- Exposure to potential new community group members.
Interested parties can complete their expression of interest online at www.wellington.vic.gov.au/parksweekeoi or by contacting Council’s Open Space Officer on 1300 366 244. Closing date for entries is 5pm on Friday 29 September 2017.
