It’s that time of year again where Wellington Shire Council is looking for nominations for the 2018 Australia Day Awards.
Council are inviting nominations across four categories:
- Citizen of the Year – people aged 25 years or older who have made a significant contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years
- Young Citizen of the Year – people aged 24 years or younger who have made a significant contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years
- Community Event of the Year – presented to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding community event during the year
- Community Group of the Year – a group that has made a sustained and significant contribution to the Wellington Shire community.
Winners of this year’s awards were Citizen of the Year, Mark Thorpe; Young Citizen of the Year, Wyatt Kilgower; Community Event of the Year, Seaspray Centenary Celebrations, and Community Group of the Year, Sale Central Rotary Club – Monday Tucker.
Wellington Shire Council Mayor Carolyn Crossley, says “It is important that we congratulate those extraordinary citizens and recognise the generosity of our volunteers for their contribution to our community.
“You can nominate any person, group or event for our 2018 awards that has made a significant contribution to Wellington Shire. By nominating you are acknowledging the important role that our citizens play in making our Shire a happy, bright, enjoyable and thriving place to live, work, play and visit.”
If you know a person, group or event that deserves to be recognised for their outstanding contribution or achievement in our community, please nominate them for a 2018 Australia Day Award.
Council only accepts nominations provided on official nomination forms. These can be collected from Customer Service Centres in Sale and Yarram or at any Wellington Shire Library branch.
You can also download a hard copy form or submit your nomination online at www.wellington.vic.gov.au/ausdayawards. Closing date for nominations is Tuesday 31 October 2017.
