Peacocks to stay at Sale Botanic Gardens

Wellington Shire Council has no plans to remove wild peacocks from Sale Botanic Gardens. Contrary to a local protest campaign, Council has never considered and will not remove the peacocks from the gardens as part of the Garden for Life project.

Port Albert community positively responds to proposed plans

Wellington Shire Council will continue discussions with the Port Albert community regarding the proposed street and drainage works following positive survey results. The survey was sent to Port Albert residents in March seeking feedback on whether they wanted Council to progress planning for street and drainage improvements in the town.

Council defends record on animal removal in Loch Sport

Wellington Shire Council has defended its service to Loch Sport following a report in a local newspaper about apparent lack of action on roadkill reports. The article in the Gippsland Times quoted a Loch Sport resident saying that Council was slow to act when residents reported animal carcasses on roadsides in the town.

Council to consider future of Rosedale landfill

Wellington Shire Council will consider the future of the Rosedale Landfill in an upcoming council meeting. Council officers have prepared a report for Council that recommends the closure of the facility as of 30 October 2018.

Designer dogs and their puppies seized in shocking conditions

Wellington Shire Council rescued 39 designer breed dogs and puppies from a rural property last week, after a tip-off from the public. The dogs and puppies were living in filthy, cramped conditions and were seized by local laws officers who are authorised under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986.

Port of Sale Temporary Closure (Sunday 15 July, 2018)

Maffra Solar Farm receives planning approval

Wellington Shire Council has approved a planning permit for the development of a $40m solar farm, located north of Maffra. The project applicant, ARP Australian Solar Pty Ltd, plans to construct the farm on a 63-hectare property located at 148 Brewers Hill Road.
