Stratford is located on the Avon River 18km from Sale on the Princes Highway. It has a growing population of approximately 2,000 people, and is a popular place for families to live due to its close proximity to Sale. Stratford is a common rest stop for tourists due to the range of services, accommodation and speciality shops available.

Stratford comes alive in May for the annual ‘Shakespeare on the River Festival’. The medieval themed Apex Park is a popular with young children, and is also the start/end of the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail.

Shakespeare's birthday party in the park

Sunday 22 April

Children of all ages are invited to Stratford’s Medieval Apex Park for a Shakespearean birthday bash. Come and support Stratford’s Courthouse Kids as they perform snippets of some of Shakespeare’s most famous plays. Activities will include crafts, a costume pet parade and of course a birthday cake.

Come and celebrate the opening of our 2018 Shakespeare on the River Festival. Enjoy the opening of the 2018 Art Exhibition 'The Tempest', live performances, the announcement of the 2018 Sheila Malady Short Story Competition winners, and the presentation of the 2018 Janice Jones Youth Award.

Comedy of Errors

Groundwork Youth Theatre present the classic Shakespearean comedy. Come along to “The Comedy of Errors”. You’ll be treated to hilarious confusion, slapstick humour, cross dressing and the occasional fart joke all set in the Wild West.

Evensong at the Holy Trinity Church is a Shakespeare on the River Festival tradition. Come along and celebrate this ecumenical service with us.
